Passport to Healthier Lifestyles Comprehensive prenatal care has been proven to decrease the incidence of complications at birth and low-birth weight. As a result, St. Mary Medical Center has implemented the Passport to Healthier Lifestyles incentive program, which provides women with tangible and immediate incentives to participate in prenatal care and educational services offered to women receiving pernatal care at Healthy Beginnings. This program encourages women to take full advantage of the services it makes available by allowing participants to earn points by meeting prenatal care responsibilities, such as attending clinic appointments or health education classes, acquiring appropriate health insurance and connecting with community resources. Points are also granted if the client signs up for job training, school or volunteer work within the community. The points may then be redeemed for maternity and baby items, such as diapers, strollers, car seats, blankets, bottles and clothing. With an emphasis on earning their rewards, this program also uplifts self-esteem by allowing women to direct themselves through their prenatal healthcare program. |
